super food alert!

goji berriesIf you haven’t heard the buzz about goji berries (also called lycii or wolfberries), you’ve obviously been chillin on another planet for the past year or so. Yes, they’re the new ’superfood’… so just what’s so super about them?  Well,  these dried red berries, pronounced “go-gee”, are said to contain, weight for weight, more immune-boosting vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots (thought to help fight heart disease, defend against cancer and protect skin from sun-damage), and more iron than steak. That’s a mighty nutritional punch for a small serving of just 10-30 grams. The berries are also a good source of anti-oxidants, which may help the body defend itself against free-radical damage, and are high in B vitamins.  The down side? As with every celebrity-endorsed superfood (Madonna purportedly chows down), goji berries come with a hefty price tag. But not to worry, we’ve found a website that sells them in 1lb bags for the sweet deal of only $30. Don’t forget to come back and let us know how they treat you!
